“Identity Suicide” is a study of the selves we leave behind.
We often speak of ‘growth’ as if it were a gentle evolution, but this work rejects that illusion. Identity does not transition-it fractures. It dies. It is replaced.

The four intact masks stand as the corpses of former selves: personalities once inhabited, now empty, silent, preserved only as memory and surface. The melting mask, by contrast, is the active death-the moment in which a current identity collapses under the weight of new experience. It is the precise instant where a person realizes:

“I am no longer who I was.
The one I remember is already gone.”

The red backdrop suggests psychological violence, the erosion at the bottom echoes the structural decay of self-concepts, and the metal mesh behind the work becomes a metaphor for the external world-the systems and encounters that force each death into existence.

The piece challenges the viewer to confront an uncomfortable truth:
We believe we are continuous beings, yet every significant event kills a version of us.
Identity is not stable; it is a succession of suicides-
a lifelong sequence of endings that make room for new selves we often barely recognize.

This work stands as a reminder that we are strangers to our former selves,
and that becoming someone new always requires the destruction of who we were.
